Meet Maya

I was born during a civil war in Bangladesh, I use art to express myself. I discovered my love and passion for art at a very young age. I was encouraged to enter the national art contest to commemorate the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. I became the youngest artist to win.

Artist Statement

I am fascinated by my rich culture and Asian heritage. I learned a lot from my father, an immigrant who started his own business. I didn’t have to rediscover my love for art, as it has been a big part of my identity. I would say I am a self-taught artist.

My latest work explores the potential of layering in mixed media to build depth of colour, texture and story. I love experimenting and creating something unique. I am fascinated with the power of colour and how it can evoke emotions. This leads to bold, vibrant pieces to fill any space with joy and wonder!
